The Universal I-joist (UI) Receives The UK Patent It is widely acknowledged that the fitting of backer blocks is the single biggest problem when it comes to constructing an engineered I-joist floor due to the additional costs and time involved. Cullen has developed the solution to every site manager's nightmare, a brand new concept, a backer block-free hanger. Yes, that's right, there is no need to fit backer blocks on I-joists any more.
Doug Cullen, the Managing Director said that, "In continuing our drive to be at the forefront of design and innovation, we believe that it is our responsibility to solve our customer's structural connection problems and provide simpler more robust construction details." An Industry Perspective Dr Luke Whale, from Timbersolve, said, "The largest single problem
we encounter on site is caused by either absent or improperly fitted backer
blocks. Removing the need for backer blocks is probably the most significant
hanger innovation our industry has seen since it began." In keeping with other connectors in Cullen's innovative I-beam range the UI also has the following benefits. It only requires one size of nail, it is easy to specify, it has a wide performance band and it has been independently load tested and approved. Cullen have proved that in a fast moving industry they are determined to lead the market in terms of quality, innovation and customer care. The Patent Due to the innovative design and unique benefits that the UI provides Cullen has been granted a UK patent for the UI, ensuring they have exclusive rights to produce and supply the original detail. Cullen also has patents pending for the UI in the United States and Canada.
