Cullen Gets NHBC Blessing

Mr Gopal Sangarapillai, the NHBC's engineering representative wrote: "The NHBC is satisfied that RA and RAD hangers can be used to support I-joists and function both as a joist hanger and as a restraint strap when supported on 3.5N/mm2 or higher strength block walls."

Cullen MD Mr Doug Cullen said: "I am delighted that the NHBC has given its technical approval to our RA hanger range. We have already had a great response to the RA, and to the series of detailed Site Installation Guides we have developed to support it. The NHBC's 'stamp of approval' will give our customers even more confidence in this product."

The RA hanger, designed and developed by Glenrothes-based Cullen Building Products and its industry partner Timbersolve, is a unique one-piece folded construction with stiffening ribs for enhanced performance and guarantees a qualified safe working load without the need for masonry above. This enables the floor to be used as a safe working platform for accelerated build programmes and eliminates costly, on-site, floor propping.

The advantages of the RA range are that it is quick and easy to install, one size accommodates all single joist widths (thus minimising stock holding) and no coursing option is required as the RA supports joists on top of the previous block course allowing the joist to be built in at one end without adjustment.

For applications that involve multiple joists to be used, the enhanced RAD hanger offers all the advantages of the RA hanger but with a higher load capacity.
