Concept Tester Glenrothes-based Cullen Building Products has developed a "Concept Floor" rig to provide virtual "on-site" testing conditions for timber engineered floors. MD Doug Cullen explains, "It's all very well to design a perfect floor on plan but when the flooring industry is developing a new product, it needs to test its prototypes rigorously, in a "real life" situation."
Cullen's testing rig reproduce on-site conditions for timber engineered floors Recently Boise Building Products' Simple Framing System, including BCI Joists and Versa-Lam Beams, spent three days being trialled on the rig for its customers, including Carronvale Timber Frame. Scott Gordon, Carronvale's timber frame manager, points out, " The facility allows us to check the theory behind many of our designs in real life situations and enables us to advance the cause of engineered wood and associated products in the marketplace." Boise's second set of tests related to the refinement of its own standard
design policy, an ethos echoed by Cullen in developing "default floor"
options for its customers. The policy means that whenever Boise receives
an enquiry, the team can apply the standard design policy in its response.
